The Emirates Equestrian Federation (EEF), earlier established as the UAE Equestrian and Racing Federation by a Presidential decree, opened its offices in Abu Dhabi under the Chairmanship of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Member of the Executive Council.

The backbone of the country's equestrian activities, the EEF was established to fulfill the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, - a keen lover of horses and an ardent believer in the continuation of the country's heritage and history - which was to ensure that today's youth is aware of their forefathers' deep involvement in equestrian activities.

The Federation promotes endurance riding, flat racing, show jumping and dressage, by organising local and international events, as well as, assisting UAE riders to train and compete overseas. The Federation also enacts rules and regulations in accordance with international standards.

The Federation pays the utmost care and attention to veterinary services and maintains the reputation of the UAE as a disease and epidemic-free equine state. Significantly, it supervised the comprehensive veterinary survey in 1994 that confirmed the total elimination of infectious equine diseases and paved the way for the import and export of horses. Additionally, in the early days, the EEF began registration of UAE horses and issued several volumes of studbooks.

One of the major events sponsored by the EEF is The President of the UAE Cup Series for purebred Arabian horses. Now in its 17th year, the Series features flat races specifically for the purebred Arabian, held at prestigious racetracks around the world from May to October every year.
